Photography as improv

Today I had a three hour photoshoot with a local dance theatre company.

The choreography being in process, the quickly changing light conditions and the limited time resulted in an improvised, fast paced shoot.

I let the flow and the beauty lead and kept suggesting ideas to the choreographer, while listening to her own creative suggestions. A few years ago I know I would've been less flexible and more attached. Today I was amazed at the ease and pleasure of co-creation, seeing her and the dancer's ideas as invitaions, pure inspiration.

The world is a stage, an improv stage. We jammed together in a new way and created some pretty cool imagery together.

Afterward the official shoot ended I asked one of the dancers to stay for a few minutes. Here's one of the images (click on the image to see full size version):
